Our 7-Step Oxford Rug Washing Process
We wash all rugs at our specialized rug cleaning facility here in Oxford. When you're ready, call or request a quote on our website. We'll schedule a day and time to pick up your rug(s).
Step 2 - The Wolverine Rug Duster
Did you know your rug is full of dry, heavy, damaging soil and sediments that are trapped between the rug fibers? Your rug might have several pounds of dry soil hiding beneath the surface! We use a powerful tool called The Wolverine Rug Duster to safely shake all of this soil loose so it can’t damage your rug any further. This is the most important step in the rug cleaning process.
Step 3 - Wash & Flush In Rug Pit
Next we wash your rug in our large rug pit. Your rug is fully submerged in water with mild cleaning agents designed specifically for fine rug fibers like wool, silk, and more. Worried about the colors running? Don’t be! We take precautions to ensure your dye is stable and your rug can be cleaned safely without causing any damage. During the washing process, we gently scrub and agitate your rug using a counter rotating brush (CRB) machine. This mimics the ancient hand washing process used for centuries in some parts of the world.
Step 4 - Final Rinse
We want to make sure your rug is as clean and soft as possible with no residue. That’s why we perform a final rinse with fresh water to completely flush everything out of your rug.
Step 5 - Rug Centrifuge & Drying
Now your rug is ready for drying. Sometimes we use a specialty tool called "The Rug Sucker" to vacuum out as much moisture as possible from your rug. But more often we use our massive rug cleaning centrifuge to rapidly spin your rug dry. We are the only cleaner in the area with a rug centrifuge!
Most rugs will dry on our hanging rack next, but some may be dried on a flat surface. We use professional air movers for airflow and commercial dehumidifiers to control humidity in our drying space. All of this is to ensure we dry your rug quickly and safely.
Step 6 - Grooming The Fringes
We hand comb your rug fringes (if applicable) to ensure they are properly finished. This extra attention to detail is available for a small additional fee. Please inquire about fringe cleaning when you request your quote.
Step 7 - Final Inspection & Delivery
As a final step, we inspect your rug to ensure the cleaning is finished. If we find any problem areas, we perform additional cleaning steps to remedy the issue. We carefully wrap your clean rug in plastic to protect it during delivery back to your house. That's it! Unwrap your fresh, soft rug and enjoy it's natural beauty and texture.
